Bunbury Fox Hunt 2025

Bunbury Radio club is holding a Fox hunt on 3rd May 2025.

We will kick off from Hay Park (northern Cricket Oval) at 10am. (see maps below)

The Fox will be hidden somewhere in the greater Bunbury area, within 10km of the starting point.

Our foxes work the 2m band so make sure you pack the appropriate gear.

We will monitor the 2m calling frequency (145.500) and all the VK6RBY 2m Repeater before and during the event.

Depending on the time taken for all participants to find the fox, we may get time to reset the fox and have another go.

Bring a packed lunch or buy something from the local takeaways to eat together after the hunt and share some social time with us.

For more information, contact the club by email vk6brc@gmail.com or text/call 0417945025

Check back here for updates as we get closer to the event.

VK6RBY 2M Repeater Back on the Air

It’s been a while coming, but the VK6RBY 2M Repeater is now back on the air.

The repeater output is 146.650 and and input is 146.050 and there is no CTCSS tone.

The repeater is also attached to an Allstar node and will be linked to the VK6Allstar network.

There have been good signal reports from as far north as Mandurah and even Melville with calls from Busselton in the South. Email your signal reports to vk6brc@gmail.com

Thanks must go to all those involved in rectifying the problems with the antenna. Well done team.

Fox Hunt Have A Go Day

Sunday saw the members finally get out there and have a go at Fox Hunting after several attempts to get out there deferred by the weather.

For most members it was their first attempt at radio direction finding. Two foxes were deployed in parkland near to the Bunbury Mens Shed and after a bit of testing of the gear, we jumped in the cars for the short drive.

Once at the park, the Bunnings yagi’s were deployed and everyone wandered off to see if they could find a fox.

Brian VK6TGQ and Bob VK6ZGN must have had some experience as they headed off in the correct direction with Bob just beating Brian to locate the first fox built and hidden by Richard VK6PZT.

The other fox was a bit illusive as it was relatively close to the car park and distinguishing its location was quite difficult for the inexperienced members of the group.

With a little bit of trial and error the remaining members finally began to get a handle on the equipment and techniques required to locate their target,

The general consensus was that Fox Hunting was fun and we can’t wait to try it again.

Watch this space for our next ARDF event.
